Abstract

The National Blood Authority has proposed a restructuring of the blood transfusion service in England, including the closure of one third of the 15 regional blood transfusion centres. The authority also wants to introduce a computer system to monitor all blood stocks and to reorganise the location of storage facilities so that all hospitals are within two hours' travelling time for emergency deliveries.
