Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transvaginal placement of mesh(TVM) with Blood-supply reservation technique(BRT) for treating pelvic organ prolapse(POP). Methods We retrospectively studied 201 POP patients undergoing BRT in our hospital from July 2007 to May 2013 and followed their recurrences and occurrences of mesh exposure. The 201 patients had average age of (65±11.3) years old, average BMI of (23.2±2.6) kg/m2 average parturition of (2.8±1.4) times and disease course median of (8.2±11.4) years. Results 201 POP patients underwent TVM. The average operation time was (60.6±16)min, the estimated blood loss was (62.6±43.5)ml, and the average postoperative hospital day was (9.2±4.9)d. 199 of 201 patients completed follow-up and mean follow-up time was 23.2 months. During the follow-up time, 2(1.0%) patients suffered recurrences, and 50(25.1%) patients developed related complications. The occurrence rate of mesh exposure was 1.0% (2/199). Conclusions Our technique of BRT for correction of POP is feasible in TVM procedures, which might gain favorable subjective and objective outcomes with lowest rates of mesh exposure in published data. Key words: Urogynecology; Pelvic organ prolapse; Pelvic reconstruction; Surgical complication
