Abstract

Intraoperative blood salvage is used to reduce the need for perioperative allogeneic blood transfusion. However, its utility has not been clearly demonstrated for adult patients undergoing single-level lumbar posterolateral fusions (PSF). Despite the lack of evidence, cell saver is frequently used during these surgeries, leading to in an increased cost.
