Abstract
The peripheral blood of patients with disseminated sclerosis has been examined with a view of studying blood platelet variations. We have concentrated particularly on blood platelet counts for the reason that blood platelet agglutinations have been noted in the blood vessels in encephalomyelitic foci. These agglutinations may, of course, be regarded as agonal, but the possibility of intravital agglutinations exists, and the probability of such a phenomenon would become greater if variations in the total blood platelet system of the organism, with a tend-ency to increased agglutination, could be demonstrated in patients with the disease. Recognition of the stated agglutinations is a result of the great interest taken in the vascular condition in disseminated sclerosis, in which the degenerative and reactive tissue changes have been found to bear a pronounced relation to the venous system (Putnam,* Broman, 4 Fog,f Haarr 8 ).
