Abstract

1. 1. Blood oxygen capacity (BOC), erythrocyte (RBC) density and hemoglobin (Hb) concentration were determined for Leptodactylus fallax, a large, tropical frog. 2. 2. Mean BOC values for males and females were 12·5 and 8·5 vol. % respectively. The difference is significant after BOC values are adjusted for differences in body weight. 3. 3. Mean RBC counts for males and females were 600,000/mm 3 and 744,000/mm 3 respectively. Mean Hb concentration was 10·9g % with no significant sexual difference. 4. 4. There was a significant decrease in BOC/g of body weight with an increase in body weight. 5. 5. Electrophoretic patterns of male, female and of a mixture of male and female blood cell proteins were identical.
