Abstract

Identification of microfilaria seen in blood films may be the only method available to make a diagnosis of some filarial infections. The low incidence of these infections in Australia and lack of exposure to the features to identify microfilaria is becoming more challenging for microscopists. Images taken from case studies collected for more than 50 years have been compiled to show the differences between the morphology of different species of microfilaria in the blood.
