Abstract

Branch, PhD, Canadian Blood Services, Research and Development and Department of Medicine, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Research and development (R&D) continues to be an important component of the overall mandate of the Canadian Blood Services (CBS) which is to provide safe blood products for transfusion to all Canadians. The CBS R&D program has been organized to address specific areas of research, represented as research “hubs” located in different geographical locations throughout Canada. Transfusion immunology is the focus of the Toronto Hub and an annual international symposium is organized and presented by CBS R&D that attracts national and international experts in the areas of transfusion immunology and related topics to present information and ideas regarding current relevant topics.
