Abstract

1. Analyses of blood from arousing and torpid Columbian ground squirrels show that: 2. 1. The hematocrit increases in torpid squirrels and decreases to normal homeothermic levels in arousing squirrels. 3. 2. The total leucocyte concentrations decrease appreciably in torpid squirrels and increase in arousing squirrels. 4. 3. The percentage of lymphocytes increases while the percentage of neutor-phils decreases during the torpid period. 5. 4. Red cell counts did not change during torpor or arousal.
