Abstract

Blindness among children is a colossal problem, both in magnitude and its economic effects. Prevention of blindness is more gratifying than attempts to cure or rehabilitate those already blind. Under the Indian National Plan for the Control of Blindness launched in 1976, emphasis has been laid on imparting eye care education and delivery of primary eye care services as an integral part of general health services. Common causes of blindness in children, their prevention, treatment and rehabilitation are detailed.
