Abstract

This work will try to picture a brief and clear frame about a brilliant fact of arms belonging to the Spanish Eighteenth Century, although that concrete action fell in almost complete oblivion; we mean about the defense of the important garrison town of Cartagena de Indias in 1741, performed by Blas de Lezo, one of the best Spanish naval officers of all times. With few seaborne and land units at his command was able to fight off a huge British invasion fleet, inflicting a crushing defeat to a very large squadron, bigger sixty ships in size to the Spanish Armada of 1588.
