Abstract

In 1993, a conference on Black theology was held in Sheffield, England. More than a decade on, it is perhaps time to look at where Black theology in Britain is today and how it got there. We will do this by carrying out a sociological/historical analysis of this theology. We will look at some of the key milestones in its development, analyse the social factors that have been at the roots of its rise, consider the benefits it has been to British society and, finally, discuss some of the concerns that have been raised about its theological validity.
