Abstract

In this paper we have tried to apply several PRML (partial response maximum-likelihood) techniques to a 3B-2T code and a 4B-3T code, both conventional ternary recording codes, and have evaluated the bit error rate (BER) performance for the required S/N at the readout point by using both techniques on state transition and symbol transition matrices. The results show that the PR(1,0,?1) ML technique can be made to provide the best performance among the several combinations of PRML techniques with 3B-2T and 4B-3T codes.
