Abstract

The reaction of squaric acid, H 2C 4O 4, with the trialkyl derivatives of aluminium, gallium and indium (R 3M with R = CH 3, C 2H 5) in a 1 2 molar ratio leads to bis(dialkylmetal) squarates. The Ga and In compounds dissociate in water forming R 2M + and C 4O 4 2− ions. From these solutions the squarates crystallize as mono- and dihydrates, respectively. The vibrational spectra (IR and Raman) are discussed.
