Bis[μ-(hydrogen benzene-1,2-dicarboxylato)-O:O']bis[bis(1,10-phenanthroline-N,N')cobalt(II)] bis(hydrogen benzene-1,2-dicarboxylate) dihydrate

Abstract

The structure of the title compound, [Co 2 (C 8 H 5 O 4 ) 2 (C 12 H 8 N 2 ) 4 ](C 8 H 5 O 4 ) 2 .2H 2 O, consists of centrosymmetric dimeric [Co 2 (μ-C 8 H 5 O 4 ) 2 (C 12 H 8 N 2 ) 4 ] 2+ complex units, hydrogen benzene-1,2-dicarboxylate (C 8 H 5 O 4 - ) counter-ions and water solvate molecules. The Co II ions display a distorted octahedral environment, with Co-N distances in the range 2.134 (2)-2.170 (3) A, and Co-O distances of 2.066(2) and 2.082 (2) A. A short intramolecular hydrogen bond is found in the uncoordinated C 8 H 5 O 4 - ions, with an O...O distance of 2.381 (7) A. The cations, anions and water molecules are connected by three O-H...O hydrogen bonds of 2.530 (4), 2.698 (6) and 2.805 (4) A.
