Abstract

The relationship between vocational preferences of adolescents and their birth order was examined. A sample of 244 New York City public school students were selected and administered the Self Directed Search (SDS). Firsborns were found to be overrepresented in the real istic, conventional, and enterprising areas, whereas, later boms were found to be overrepresented in the social, artistic, and investigative areas. Thus, firstborns and later boms are different in the vocational preferences.
