Birth Defects Atlas and Compendium.

Abstract

The field of birth defects has grown rapidly in the past few years and for the practicing physician it has become increasingly difficult to keep abreast of it. This volume is an attempt to organize this unwieldy body of information so that it is available to practitioners faced with a clinical problem. The editor and his many well-known collaborators have done a good job on this first attempt. What makes this book particularly valuable is its extensive cross-referencing system. Using this, one or more prominent features of a patient can be selected and a list of possible syndromes associated with these features rapidly compiled. Then, each possibility can be compared to the patient, using the disease synopsis found in the compendium and the patient photographs in the atlas. There are many recent atlases of birth defects, but this volume covers more disease entities than any of the others. The book
