Abstract

The propagation of light pulses in a nonlinear optical fiber operated near the zero-dispersion point is governed by the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation. For fibers having normal dispersion, the NLS equation is of de-focussing type so that the simplest exponential plane waves are stable.
