Abstract

Abstract The article considers the impact of the course of spring season upon spring arrival of birds. The analysis of spring arrival dates of 56 species served to determine that the course of spring season affects both the beginning of the whole arrival season and the arrival dates of separate species. The dependency is especially characteristic of the species arriving at the beginning of the season (March to the first ten-day of April), both short- and long-distance migrants. In case of late spring (of 1996), arrival dales of the majority of species are considerably later than in case of early spring (1997). For some species this difference may reach one month. Between-year differences in arrival dates of the species arriving in the second half of the season (the third ten-day of April to the second ten-day of May) are not so apparent.
