Abstract

Lumbar defects constitute a challenging problem for practicing plastic surgeons. With an increase in spinal surgeries and a rising number of war victims, newer and better plastic solutions are required to cover wounds in the lumbar region. Vertically oriented paraspinal musculocutaneous flaps have been described for central lumbar back defects. This article describes a horizontally oriented bipedicle fasciocutaneous flap that can also be used to cover large transverse defects. The versatility of this flap in treating a case of a war victim is highlighted.
