Abstract

Biomolecular interactions can be measured either in solution or on surfaces. The quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) is a mechanical biosensor, and interactions of biomolecues with a large variety of different surfaces are measured through changes in the resonant frequency of a quartz sensor. The QCM finds applications in cases when not only the affinity of a given biomolecular interaction is to be measured, but also accompanying changes in conformation or mechanical properties.
