Abstract

The ability of a Serratia marcescens strain to transform ethyl acetate soluble (EASF) and insoluble (EAIF) fractions of kraft pine lignin, was studied, In media containing EASF or EAIF and 0.1% glucoes, the bacterium degraded 15 and 9% respectively, as shown by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The greates percentages degradation, 48 and 43% were obtained when S. marcescens grew on neutral (N-EASF) and acid (A-EASFF) compnents of the EASF of kraft lignin
