Abstract

A study of bromohydrin formation from some cinnamyl substrates by the heme-dependent chloroperoxidase from Caldariomyces fumago has identified differences in the regio- and diastereospecificity of this enzyme relative to chemical hydrobromination. Diastereospecificity of bromohydrin formation from (E)-4-phenyl-buten-2-ol by the vanadium-dependent bromoperoxidase from the alga Corallina officinalis is similar to that of the fungal enzyme but significantly different to the equivalent chemical reaction.
