Abstract
As a financial and manufacturing centre in the Pacific Rim, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has a strong potential to develop biotechnology. We describe the academic developments and manpower training of HKSAR and give an overview of the development of biotechnology-related infrastructural facilities: (a) incubator facilities for start-up, (b) GMP-related support facilities, (c) databases and information support, (d) technology centres, and (e) Traditional Chinese Medicine quality control laboratories. These facilities have been supported by the Industry Support Fund of the Industry and Technology Development Council of HKSAR.
