Abstract

In the present work, we aim to synthesize hydroxyapatite with Vitex-negundo plant extract, for coating Cp-titanium for biomedical applications. Titanium has good biocompatibility and excellent corrosion resistance. This study reports the synthesis of Vitex-negundo hydroxyapatite with enhanced osteoblast activity. Vitex-negundo has good anti-oxidant and anti-inflammation activity, etc. Synthesized plant extract was confirmed by the GCMS to find out the structure. The surface morphological studies of EPD coating on Ti surfaces exhibited porous flakes with flower-like morphology. The occurrence of functional groups and the crystalline structure validated VH-HAp with and without coating on Ti. Potentiodynamic polarization studies evaluated in Hank’s solution exhibited the lowest icorr value of 3.2 µA. In-vitro studies of MG63 cell culture showed 80% cell viability after 48 h of incubation in DMEM solution. Thereby, the biosynthesis of VH-hydroxyapatite coatings is a potential candidate for biomedical implant applications.
