Abstract

Heavy metal pollution is considered to be one of the burning issues today. In this work Tamarind fruit shell powder (Tamarindus Indica) biomaterial was used for the removal of manganese from wastewater. One parameter method of Biosorption experiments has been conducted to study the variation of various parameters such as agitation time, biomass dose, initial metal ion concentration and pH. The experimental data were tested to Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. The data well suited to Freundlich model. The experimental data best suited to pseudo second order kinetics. The optimum conditions found to reach maximum biosorption of manganese were agitation time-60minutes, dosage-0.1gm.initial ion concentration-1gm/l, pH-3. The Results revealed that the tamarind fruit shell powder was favouarable to removal of manganese from waste water.
