Abstract

Diagnosis and typing of systemic amyloidosis requires histological and immunochemical tissue analysis. The aspiration or biopsy of subcutaneous fat, usually from the abdominal region, allows such a diagnosis to be made. The method is simple, inexpensive, comfortable and safe for the patient. It allows a diagnosis of AA or AL amyloidosis in more than 70 % of cases.
