Abstract

Omega-3 fatty acids including α-linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, and docosahexaenoic acids have progressively become the buzzwords in the field of cardio health and brain function related research, due to their amazing dietary supplements with an ability to curb the number of fatal diseases. Omega- 3 fatty acids have been identified in both plant and animal sources and a new addition is insect source. In recent days, the silkworm pupal oil is gaining significant attention due to the presence of Alpha-linolenic acid with a substantial amount. Here we, elucidate that how the molecular mechanism of omega-3 fatty acids can be engineered for the improvement of metabolic pathways and the beneficial effects of omega- 3 fatty acids present in silkworm pupal oil and their biological activities have also been discussed.
