Abstract

The economic importance of alligatorweed, Alternanthera phylloxeroides (Mart.) Griseb., an aquatic pest in the southeastern United States, and the current taxonomy of the flea beetle, an unnamed species of Agasicles, are discussed. A description of each of the developmental stages of the beetle is given as well as data on biology and ecology. Studies show that this insect does not diapause. From life-cycle data, it is estimated that 5 generations occur annually in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
