Abstract

Three major facies types are developed: shoal facies, consisting of thick beds of limestone and dolomite with some anhydrite; depression facies, consisting of black bituminous limestones, cherty mudstones and black shales; intermediate facies, consisting of interbedded types from the other two facies. The principal biocoenoses of each facies and its variants are discussed and the faunas and floras tabulated. — D. J. McLaren.
