Abstract

Herein, this paper reports a bionic artificial compound eyes based on a concave mold fabricated by precision engraving technologies for imaging, which enables rapid preparation of large-scale compound eyes with low cost. The number of the smallest units called individual ommatidia is 7734 with diameter of 100 µm, which are omnidirectionally distributed all around the top of one hemisphere. Moreover, the roughness of the artificial compound eyes is about 40 nm on average. The field of view (FOV) of the artificial compound eyes as well as the optical performance are also investigated and the experimental result shows that FOV is about 120°.
