Abstract

The solid state fermentation (SSF) is a robust process perfectly suitable for the on-site cultivation of white-rot fungi, where fungi serve as enzyme producers for the treatment of lignocellulosics. The SSF has been known for a few thousand years, but until today process control remains a major problem. Especially the determination of fungal biomass in this system is difficult. This should be simplified and accelerated by means of a new process based on flow cytometry.
