Abstract
The discovery of cancer stem cells (CSCs) in hematologic malignancies and solid tumors has changed the diagnostic or therapeutic approach toward cancers. More and more researches have been interested in the CSC hypothesis. The advances in isolation of CSCs over the past years has demonstrated that developing effective methods by focusing biological characteristics on the CSCs may allow for the discovery of specific, sensitive, and reliable CSC biomarkers in tumor cell lines, and xenograft animal models and primary patient tumor sample so that they can subsequently be specifically isolated or killed by targeted therapies. In this chapter, we describe here some of CSC biomarkers that has been used in establishing special methods of identifying CSCs or has showed that identifying them is hotly debated topics.
