Abstract

Background: NBI is a novel method of enhanced endoscopic imaging that reveals different surface mucosal and vascular patterns (associated with neoplastic and non-neoplastic epithelium) in patients with BE. However, the yield and association of molecular biomarkers in these different patterns has not yet been explored. Aim: In BE patients, to compare the expression of biomarkers (Ki67 and p53) between regular and irregular mucosal and vascular patterns visualized by NBI endoscopy. Methods: In a pilot study, to explore the mechanisms for NBI patterns, targeted biopsies were obtained from ‘regular’ and ‘irregular’ NBI patterns in BE patients undergoing surveillance with NBI endoscopy.
