Abstract

After many years of slow, steady progress, biomagnetism has recently reached some significant milestones. Within the past year, several applications of biomagnetic imaging have been approved for routine clinical use. Significant progress has also been made in several other areas of biomagnetism, and new basic and clinical applications are likely to be forthcoming. In this paper, I first present a tutorial overview of biomagnetism, emphasizing technical aspects. I then discuss selected clinical and basic applications, with a strong bias toward my area of research specialization, fetal biomagnetism.
