Abstract
The publications of the French Ophthalmological Society are noted for their detail andBiology and Surgery of the Vitreous Bodyis no exception. It has been prepared at the Ophthalmologic Clinic of Strasbourg and its authors include A. Brini, A. Bronner, J. P. Gerhard, and J. Nordmann. More than half the book is devoted to the biology of the vitreous humor. This is a study in depth and includes some original electron microscopic investigations of the embryology of the vitreous in chickens. In addition to a description of the anatomy of the vitreous there are chapters on chemistry, physics, physiology, bacteriology, immunology, and physiopathology of the vitreous. The second section of the book is far more interesting to the clinical ophthalmologist. It includes a comprehensive review of the treatment of vitreous loss as well as a discussion of the problems arising from vitreous adhesions and the role of the vitreous
