Abstract

Nerve tissue and sensory receptors can act as PE detectors and transducers. Test object for the nerve tissue measurements was the Nervus opticus (N.o.), cow, for sensory receptors the ear of the locust Locusta migratoria. The N.o. has PE properties and reacts to rapid changes of temperature and pressure with voltage responses analogous to those of nonbiological PE materials. The same is true for the mechanoreceptor (insect ear) which was investigated. Artificial models of sensory receptors (sensitive component: a PE material) are presented; their PE and PZE voltage responses are similar to those of real receptors in living animals.
