Abstract

BackgroundHerbal medicines contain single herb or many herbal ingredients derived from the plant and their byproducts. Aporphine alkaloids are a class of natural products which is isolated from the leaves of Liriodendron tulipifera and other natural products. Natural compounds with extensive structural diversity are valuable resources for drug discovery. Thaliporphine, an aporphine alkaloid, is one of the prominent bioactive compounds in N. konishii. MethodsScientific research data of thaliporphine has been collected from various literature databases in the present work and analyzed for their medicinal properties and pharmacological activities. Medicinal importance and pharmacological activity data of thaliporphine has been collected from Google, Google Scholar, Science Direct, PubMed, and Scopus and analyzed in the present work to know the therapeutic benefit of thaliporphine. However, keywords such as alkaloid, thaliporphine, phytoconstituents and herbal medicine were used in the present work in order to collect all the scientific information of the present article. ResultsLiterature data analysis revealed the biological importance of thaliporphine in medicine, as it showed beneficial potential in LPS-induced endotoxaemia, cardiac function, post-ischemia reperfusion injury. Further it has pulmonary-protective effect, antihyperglycemic effect, vasoconstricting effect, positive inotropic agent and contractile effects in medicine. Scientific data analysis revealed the biological importance of thaliporphine in medicine in the medicine; however clinical study data are missing in the scientific field. ConclusionPresent review signified the biological importance and therapeutic potential of thaliporphine in medicine.
