Abstract

Successful biological control of crown gall by Agrobacterium radiobacter 84, which produces agrocin 84, has been reported in several countries. Not all pathogenic A. tumefaciens strains are, however, susceptible to biological control by the agrocin as sensitivity is restricted to strains carrying a nopaline Ti plasmid. In particular biotype 3 strains with a host range limited to grapevines are resistant to biological control by strain 84.
