Abstract

Mathematical methods have improved our understanding of biology over time. For instance, mathematical modeling of the circadian clock has allowed us to analyze the dynamics emerging from networks of coupled circadian oscillators. Operations research, a popular research area in mathematics, is another way we can potentially apply mathematics to biology. One problem in operations research explores how to allocate resources to people who arrive on a shopping website in an online manner in a way that maximizes reward but satisfies budget constraints.
