Abstract

Bio-inspired hardware systems computer-aided modeling, simulation and experimental research are presented in the paper, with the purpose to design and experiment digital systems with abilities of biological organisms. Original model for an FPGA-based artificial cell provided also with strongly network communication behaviors and fault-tolerant operation mode is proposed and developed. The complex interaction phenomena inside a bi-dimensional network built with these cells is carefully analyzed and simulated. In the next research steps the artificial cell model is implemented and tested on a bio-inspired hardware system with FPGA circuits. The basic challenge of these experiments is to develop VLSI embryonic systems with fault-tolerant and self-healing abilities, as main components in large scale high security industrial control applications.
