Abstract
Experiments were performed to evaluate the effects of variations in SO 2 dosage-kinetics on the severity of foliar injury in ragweed, downy bromegrass, and bachelor's buttons, three species that are potential bioindicators of SO 2 exposure. Injury increased in proportion to the number of 3 h exposures to 3900 μg SO 2 m −3 h −1, but did not differ among three patterns of exposure providing the same dose. Trends in response to the three patterns were identified. Low concentrations of SO 2 supplied for up to 5 days did not modify the response of the plants to subsequent short term exposure to high concentrations of SO 2.
