Abstract

The power system analysis of transient stability is one of the major problems in recent days. The maintaining voltage stability is a challenging issue in planning and security assessment of power system. It is required to maintain steady value voltage at all buses in the power system under normal and abnormal condition. Here the transient stability analysis through optimal location and tuning of STATCOM is thoroughly investigated. When a three phase fault is applied in multimachine power system, the voltage stability of the system is severely affected. By using STATCOM device, the multi machine system regains its stability. The performance analysis of STATCOM has been executed for Western Science Coordinated Council (WSCC) 9-bus system using power system analysis tool box (PSAT) software. The parameters of the STATCOM are tuned by biogeography based optimization (BBO) and the effect of proposed method is proved by the analysis of the results.
