Abstract

In the present study, biogenic silver nanoparticles rapidly synthesized using leaf extract of Rosa indica – wichuriana hybrid Franc ois guillot were investigated for their potential use as a antibacterial and antifungal additi ve to commercially available dish wash and hand wash. UV – vis spectrophotometer , Powder X - ray diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy, Hr TEM and EDX analysis were used to characterize the synthesized silver nanoparticles. UV – vis spectrum analysis showed the surface plasmon peak at 427 nm. From high resolution tran smission electron microscopy (Hr TEM) analysis, the size of the silver nanoparticles was determined to be 15 - 25 nm. The synerg y of bio genic silver nanoparticles and commercially av ailable dish wash and hand w ash showed enhanced antibacterial and antifungal activity against selected pathogenic strains Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus, Klebsiella pneumonia e , Candida albicans, C . tropicalis, C . krusei .
