Abstract

Abstract. The performance of an ASBR system was studied for co-digestion of cheese whey (CW) and swine manure (SM). There are four types of organic loading rate(OLR) ratio of CW and SM, 0.5:1.5, 1.0:1.0, 1.5:0.5, 2.0:0.5. The effect of Total chemical oxygen demand (TCOD) removal, volatile solids (VS) removal, biogas yield and VFA/Alk ratio was analyzed. As a result, co-digestion of CW(1.5gVS/L/day) and SM(0.5gVS/L/day) was determined as highly TCOD removal (54.4%), VS removal (58.9%) and biogas yield (904mL/gVS). When the VFA/Alk ratio of 0.5 ~ 0.8 was kept, acid fermentation and methane fermentation were maintained for the balance. While in the case of co-digestion of CW 2.0gVS/day and SM 0.5gVS/day, the most feed of cheese whey in test sets, the performance of anaerobic digestion decreased due to the high VFA ratio of cheese whey.
