Abstract

In the recent century, the lack of energy, the decrease of water resources, and the threat of drought have made significant challenges worldwide. Generally, by population growth and also the global warming phenomenon, the water crisis issue and drought have become a genuine concern for the whole world. This research aims to study the effect of water-energy nexus in country policy-makings and planning. As a result, a multi-objective model is designed for energy production through anaerobic co-digestion of sewage sludge supply chain under minor disturbances caused by drought. Economic objective maximizes the profit, and the environmental goal checks the maximization of process environmental yield. To study the efficiency of the proposed model, some dry, semi-dry, and humid provinces of Iran are chosen as the case study. The results show that establishing a power plant in Isfahan and Gilan is viable. The results will be a significant help to the authorities for better use of feedstocks in managing the troubles caused by droughts or unwanted environmental effects caused by advanced industries.
