Abstract
The increasing consumption due to the decreasing amount of fossile energy resources, as well as the increasing fuel prices and living standard will justify the better utilisation of the opportunities lying in biofuel production. Certain countries produce biofuels for their own use or they even export them. However, there are countries which have not decided which feedstock and technology to use. Biofuel – mainly biodiesel and bioethanol – use greatly contributes to environmental protection, decreased CO2 emission and reduced greenhouse effect.

Summary
A csökkenő fosszilis energiahordozók, az egyre emelkedő üzemanyag árak és az életszínvonal növekedése miatt folyamatosan emelkedő fogyasztás indokolja a bio-üzemanyag előállításában rejlő lehetőségek jobb kihasználását. A bio-üzemanyagok előállításnak gondolata szinte a világ összes országát foglalkoztatja. Egyes országok már saját használatra állítanak elő bio-üzemanyagokat, esetleg exportálnak is. Amelyek még nem döntötték el, hogy milyen alapanyagból, milyen technológiával állítsák elő. A bio-üzemanyagok – elsősorban a biodízel és bioetanol – üzemanyagok használatával nagymértékben elősegíthetjük a környezet védelmét, a szén-dioxid kibocsátás csökkentését és az üvegházhatás mérséklését
