Abstract

The bottom of transgressive interval outcropping in Eastern Southpyrenean Basin (Middle Eocene) presentsthree biofacies: bryozoan protuberance facies, bryozoan mudmound facies, and sponge mudmound facies. Due to the monotonous succession of marls characteristic of the aphotic siliciclastic shelf environment, the preservation of morphosedimentary structures in the stratigraphic record is only possible by the presence of some specific organisms. A careful analysis of the relationships between the organisms and the sedimentary processes is necessary to interpret this kind of shelf environment.
