Abstract

Clinical bioethics is a discipline dedicated to the study of ethical dilemmas that arise in the clinical healthcare setting. Medical providers facing ethical dilemmas occurring in their work may seek assistance from committees or individuals with training in clinical bioethics to help resolve these dilemmas in order to provide optimal healthcare services. This article reviews the history of clinical bioethics, the nature of ethical dilemmas in healthcare, the guiding principles used to define ethical problems in clinical ethics, and a common format used to analyze clinical cases.
