Abstract

In this paper we investigate the bioecological mordant dyeing of silk with monascorubrin. The effect of pH, praseodymium chloride concentration and the mordanting method on the dye uptake and K/S was investigated. The washing-fastness, prubbing-fastness and light-fastness were also researched. The results indicate that praseodymium chloride could form a complexation with the monascorubrin and fiber, which improved the dye uptake and K/S. The washing-fastness and rubbing-fastness of the dyed samples was grade 4. The light-fastness was grade 3–4. The optimum dyeing formulation was simultaneous mordanting, praseodymium chloride concentration 1 g/l, pH 3, and liquor ratio 1:30.
