Abstract

Biodiesel production from the esterification of fatty acid (stearic acid) with ethanol catalyzed by PA/NaY (PA=organophosphonic acid, NaY=NaY molecular sieve) was investigated, and the effects of PA loading, catalyst amount, molar ratio of ethanol to acid, reaction time and temperature on the esterification reaction were examined. The optimum values for maximum esterification percentage can be obtained by using a Box–Behnken center-united design with a minimum of experimental work. The pseudohomogeneous (PH) model has been used to simulate the experimental data, and the calculated values of Arrhenius coefficient and activation energy are 6.394×103 and 70.51kJ/mol, respectively.
